We are a grassroots organization founded by a group of Latina women inspired to make an impact in our communities and make the world a better place. In less than two years, through lots of hard work and many times pooling our own personal resources, we have impacted the lives of many, especially 30 young women in the Dominican Republic. We are very proud of our work!
IN A FEW YEARS...
We have distributed over 650 book bags filled with a plethora of school and hygiene supplies throughout the broader Dominican Republic and New York City. Schools in under-resourced communities, especially in
The Dominican Republic, are often overcrowded and lacks the resources and material students need to succeed. School
supplies are expensive and difficult for some families to afford. Latinas & Líderes supports the neediest students obtain the tools to help them succeed in school and lead healthier lives.
What kid does not love new school supplies?
For some families quality school supplies are a luxury as many struggle to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. We are proud to be able to support families with supplies like bags, notebooks, crayons, colored pencils, and markers. The smiles on the faces of the children tell it all.
“I am empowered and want to tell the world that I will not allow children to be left without learning.” -Ana Beatriz Rodriguez Perez
Most of all, we have inspired girls like 12-year-old
Ana Beatriz to make an impact in her community in Santo Domingo. She has started a little school of sorts right outside her house where she tutors younger children and teaches them how to read.
We have provided a leadership, empowerment, and self-love camp with a customized curriculum to 30 girls from under-resourced communities in the Dominican Republic and housed at a college at no cost to their families. In addition to the camp, we provide educational opportunities like mentoring services and school supplies to these 30 future leaders that will make and impact in their own families and communities.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic we have distributed groceries to over 25 families affected by food insecurity throughout New York City’s five boroughs. Altogether across these families we have helped to feed about 100 children. In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic we ensured that our 30 girls had their quality book bags filled with school and hygiene supplies including disinfectant hand soap and protective face masks. We have also provided clothing and stipends for groceries for our most vulnerable families.
